More misinformation published in major media quoting an ill informed veterinarian. Ugh. This time it is the Washington Post advising pet food consumers “5 Ways to Cut Costs” with pet foods. No, No, No.
Irradiated pet food ingredients; at no extra charge. Federal regulations will soon allow irradiation to destroy nutritional content of pet food poultry ingredients. Despite the scientific fact that irradiation does NOT kill all bacteria, and despite the scientific fact that irradiation alters the nutritional content of food, the FDA is accepting the petition submitted by a food irradiation company and is changing the law.
Maybe their phone lines are down…maybe they are all on vacation…or just maybe they are refusing to speak to pet food consumer advocates. The only thing we know for certain is that it has been more than 60 days that the FDA has continued to ignore requests to establish open dialogues with pet food consumer advocates.

Great Life pet food is pulling from store shelves two varieties of buffalo dog food; this is not a recall. Great Life reports they have received no complaints of sick pets, only a rancid smell that is occurring in some bags within 3 months of manufacture.
Some recent pet food news is nothing but crazy. From FDA testing of pet food for salmonella while freely allowing Chinese imported poultry into the US to more mention of euthanized pets in pet food…it is a crazy pet food world out there.
